As Flook describes it, “This compilation is a work in progress... I became really immersed in the ambient/space world in the early 90's through the 'Hearts of Space' radio program, and George Parsons’ KVMR Red Eye shows... This particular mix started coming together about 13 or 14 years ago while stuck in a dark, night-time blizzard... I had thrown a bunch of percussionless tracks onto a tape before the trip and the first 3 or 4 track sequence just came together by chance... An early version of this mix was used as the audition tape for my radio show 'Senseless Acts of Randomness'...The concept and atmosphere behind this album is not meant to be sad, nor necessarily dark, but to create a space to relax, imagine, and even induce dreamtime....I’d like to thank both of the previously mentioned shows for their ongoing inspiration and education, and especially the musicians for their amazing works...With love, and great passion, for the void...”Click to listen

Originally posted in December, it has been remastered and re-posted for your listening pleasure. One of the unsung heroes of Yellow No. 5, Flook spends a lot of time working behind the scenes to make a great event happen and is the first to take the very early or really late set so that other artists can have a better timeslot. Those fortunate enough to be able to catch him are in for a treat, taking in the eclectic blend of styles he describes as 'telektrohouse.'Click to listen

Bass Shifter

Friction is back with another funky, energetic set that will keep you on your feet from the very start.Born in Stockholm, Sweden while his parents were on tour, Friction was immediately submersed into the world of music. On stage in front of an audience of 10,000 by age four, playing guitar by the age of twelve, and opening for bands like Cake and the Deftones by nineteen, music has always been his obsession. Inspired by the music and performance of Bassnectar, Friction took to the decks as new instruments and soon found himself dropping beats and playing venues from small clubs and street fairs to giant festivals. He's played alongside a wide range of artists, including Rennie Pilgrim, Lawgiverz, Bass Kittens, Eskmo, Bil Bless (aka SOTEG/The Disciple Grin), Autobots, Oscure, FreQ Nasty, and Bassnectar among many other amazing talents. With the help of Y no. 5 (which he co-founded) and others in the community, Friction brought the post-apocalyptic Purgatory Cruiser to festivals such as San Francisco Love Parade/Love Fest and the Burning Man arts festival in the Nevada desert.
