Trash & Recycling

One of the additional hassles for Burning Man participants traveling from afar is what to do with all the necessary gear after going to the burn. All too often, people abandon trash and perfectly good gear out on the playa simply because they don’t know what to do with it. This is not acceptable!!! Burning Man is a leave no trace event - that means that when you depart, you leave no trace behind.
Fortunately for us all, the regional chain Save Mart has stepped up to help. From Friday August 22nd to Wednesday September 3rd, they will be offering a FREE drive thru recycle center at five Reno locations (the Keystone location will keep their recycle center open until Saturday September 6th. And they’re open 24 hours, so whatever time of day or night you pass by, take full advantage.
They’ll take the following recyclables off your hands: plastics (HDPE 1,2,3,4,& 5), plastic bags, glass, all metals (aluminum, tin, steel, iron, etc.), paper, cardboard, and recyclable batteries. They will also take your unwanted bikes.
This year, they will also take your trash for a small fee of $3 per standard35-gallon bag.
All the proceeeds will be donated to support local environmental programs and charitable causes. Even better, Save Mart will match the proceeds raised from recyclables, up to $1000. This should be a big help for anyone traveling a great distance.
